10 Valentine Gift Ideas For Those New To The Zoo

What happens on Valentine’s Day? Well, it depends! Do you want to move the relationship forward or hold back until more time has passed? Just know that Valentine’s Day gifts can say more than you want and also less than what is desired or expected from your love interest.

Valentine’s Day gifts are important. While not buying or doing anything might be the cheaper, easier and faster way to get through February 14th, the morning and the day(s) afterwards might not be. So if you are new to the zoo on Valentine’s Day, something small might be all that is needed.

These ten offerings are tame gifts. It doesn’t matter if you live in the same city or not. They work for online dating, long distance relationships or those just starting out with real live contact face-to-face. If you are too far away to go to a concert she would really like, buy and send her the tickets anyway. It’s the thought behind being more motivated by her feelings than you not going that will earn you dating points.

1. Gift your Valentine with a card.
Send her one like the ones she received in grade school. Send her an e-card, e-video or YouTube it. It can be suggestive, romantic, hopeful or even sent as a secret admirer. Read the writing that comes with it, if any. If you think the words are too much too soon, or perhaps don't say enough write your own words or borrow them from their favorite relationship sitcom on TV.

2. Gift your Valentine with flowers.
Deliver at their home, work or both. Hire a sing-o-gram. Women, know that some men do love flowers, too. And it doesn’t have to be red in color unless your intention is for passion. And it doesn’t have to be a rose. Gerberas, daisies and carnations are all perfectly suitable.

3. Sweeten your Valentine with candy/chocolates.
Instead of generic go specialty. You can customize her name or even her picture or a picture of the both of you can be scanned on a cake. You could also hire a delivery person dressed as Cupid to present your order.

4. Enjoy a lunch and/or dinner Valentine date.
Gift them their favorite place to eat or experience. Try a live band or some virtual sports centers. Whatever you pick, choose that level of romanticism you want: lighting, smell, wine/food choices or dancing. If not in town, still give them the treat but have the restaurant call them up with the surprise.

5. Put a classified Valentine ad in their local newspaper/online site.
I did this once. It was a special, intimate message from me to him. Only he knew what my lingo and codes meant.

6. Buy your Valentine music, books or videos
Make a CD or buy music of their favorite musician or group. Purchase some books for them from their favorite author. Consider a subscription to Oprah, Nassau, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated or a series of works from a comedian they love to watch. Then add some specialty popcorn, chocolate or snack foods attached and—voila!

7. Gift your Valentine concert or games tickets.
I took my beloved to see a well known, local musician who played flamenco (Spanish) guitar. Concerts, games or events do not have to be in your town but in their’s. Make their happiness and your thoughtfulness the only priority.

8. Treat your Valentine.
Any registration for a class or activity that makes her/him know you were listening to what would be fun for them to do or you know they would love to try: fishing, martial arts, dance, art, cooking or photography classes.

9. Cook for your Valentine.
Get your chef hands a workin’ and make your Valentine the best meal ever. Dessert might fall off the plate and spill into the bedroom.

10. Special themes gifts.
Send them a framed picture of the place that you first met. Or give them new tackle for their fishing gear with a note that says, “Love to be caught by YOU”.
